Wednesday 19th February (day 1)
A few days away with Chris, Graham and Maisie and the weekend with Anglia MCC. Before we could leave the motorhome was booked in for a service and MOT. So by 0810 we were dropping the vehicle off. By 1300 we had collected it all sorted. We loaded with clothes and food and were off by 1400. An easy ride to a pub, The Olive Tree at Little Snoring which is just outside Fakenham. We were set up by 1530 and within ten minutes the others arrived. A sit down, cup of tea and chat to catch up until 1745 when the pub / food ‘called us’. It was ‘pie and a pint for £15 night’. So that will be four pies please! Mine was chicken and chorizo, Chris had steak and kidney. A couple of more drinks then back to the motorhome for the Train Game and Uno Flip. Chris and Graham left about 2230 and we sat and watched this evening’s hour long 40th Anniversary episode of Eastenders; bed just after midnight.
Thursday 20th February (Day 2)
A windy night but a, relatively, warm start to the day. After a shower in the motorhome and breakfast we made our way to catch the No9 bus to Sherringham. Boarding at 1040 we arrived at 1130. A slow walk along the high street and then along the Norfolk Coastal patch (as far as the concrete bit allowed to the left and right of the middle of town). On our return we were ‘forced’ into the Robin Hood for a beer. We intended to have something to eat but it was fairly basic fare and not what we were after. Boarding the 1507 bus back to the site we arrived at 1600. We got together again at 1900 for a chilli and rice cooked by us and then it was games again until 2200.
Friday 21st February (Day 3)
Off to Farnham Academy today for the MCC Valentines meeting. First though we left Chris and Graham at the pub and went to Tescos for a couple of things. Then we went to Holkham Nature Reserve, where Masie and Co were waiting for us. A walk across the dunes to the sea and then on the return a coffee / tea stop. We left the car park about 1330 and arrived at the school at about 1400 we were quickly settled and had our lunch. Chris and I walked into town for a nose about. A pleasant town but not much to do. We explored the pub options for Chris, Graham and Maisie. Not a lot of choice. A ‘Spoons’ (no dogs); another closed permanently; another opened at 1700 (dogs allowed? didn’t know); one in the Market Square accepted dogs but looked sad. So we walked out of town to a Greene King called the Henry IV. A pleasant pub. The others joined us and then it was back to the motorhomes for 1930 in the hall. A good chat, a quiz and bingo. SIX games that didn’t finish until gone 2300.
Saturday 22nd February (Day 4)
A good dousing of rain through the night but a dry bright start to the day. The four of us left at 1015 to catch the bus to Holt as when we went through it on Thursday it looked worth a visit. By just after 1130 we were in Holt. There is a lot of independent shops and stores. We stopped for a coffee and got a complimentary raspberry doughnut - a result! More strolling around. While the shops were varied the prices were not; Holt was an expensive place to shop. We either then caught the1250 bus back or the next one at 1540. We opted for the earlier one. An extra three hours in Holt was not a good prospect. We were back at the motorhome at 1340 in time for Wales .v. Ireland rugby - Ireland won but only just. After the Wales match Chris, Graham and I went up to the Henry IV for the England .v. Scotland match. We found ourselves very close to a big screen but in a very noisy environment. At half time I checked the restaurant end (which was fully booked). A table became vacant as they had a cancelation. We moved to a much quieter position for the second half. England won 16-15 and it was a nail biting finish. The Calcutta Cup was ours after four years off defeats. 1930 saw us in the hall for the evening entertainment. We have seen Dale Diamond before and he is very good (and from Whittlesea). As expected he put in a great performance, despite one or two songs having a dodgy bit - only a couple. However what with Chris having ongoing stomach problems and me with, self diagnosed, Plantar Fasciitis we are a right couple and did little dancing; Chris did more than me. Back in the motorhome by 2315
Sunday 23rd February (Day 5)
After breakfast it was over to the hall for the ‘Chairman’s Waffle’ and the raffle (which took over 35 minutes). By 1130 we were off and after an easy drive home arrived at 1245.
