Trip 138 - Billericay and Galleywood

Friday 6th December (Day 1)

Well off to Billericay today. It is at Mayflower school so we cannot get in until 1700. We left after lunch around 1415 and had an easy first part of the drive to Freeport Shopping Outlet at Braintree. We were parked up and in the shopping area by 1540. A stroll around an a couple of purchases, which the savings we made paid for the diesel used so far. The second part was only 20 miles but leaving at 1645 meant traffic was not good. We did not arrive until 1750. A warm welcome and it was into the hall at 1830……but not for us. We parked up and cooked our evening meal and sauntered over about 1850. What followed was a nice evening of chat, bingo and music. As usual the Gabbitas’ won £50 on the bingo. Bed was around 2300. A storm is approaching, Storm Darragh. Gusts of 90mph are expected in some areas.

Saturday 7th December (Day 2)

So the motorhome rocked a great deal throughout the night and as for rain well biblical is the description. After breakfast we decided to brave the weather and catch the bus into Billericay. We originally were meeting four of Chris’ ex-colleagues for a chat in Queenies Café. Over the last week, one by one they cried off for one reason or another., This morning the last one did, due to a bereavement in the family. We walked the high Street and went to the Red Lion. Looking at the menu we did not fancy it too much, nor the beer. we contacted the Chequers to check they did food - they did - so we went to the Chequers. They did a lunch time menu but had no kitchen! The only hot food they had was toasted sandwiched and jacket potato. It was so pleasant and cosy in the pub, and good beer) that we opted to stay and have there potatoes. We had chilly and prawns and there lots of fillings. A further walk along the High Street before a bus back. Soon after getting back it was time to change into ‘posh frock and DJ’. The evening flew by with a great buffet and disco. We had to clear the hall by 2300 so it was an early to bed night.

Sunday 8th December (Day 3)

More wind and rocking in the night. After breakfast it was over to the hall for the ‘Chairman’s Waffle’ and tea and mince pies. 1115 saw us off to Chris and Carolyn’s for dinner and a stay over night, all of 6.5 miles. We stayed over, sleeping in the motorhome.

Monday 9th December (Day 4)

Up at 0830 and a ‘big boys breakfast’ before we left around 1200 for the journey home, arriving there at 1400.
