Trip 129 - Wyton Lakes, Huntingdon

Friday 7th December (Day 1)

So a short trip of about 20 miles to just outside Huntingdon. We arrived at 1100 and were, predictably, the first to arrive. Over the following hours the following turned up (in no particular order). Resa and Eric; Chris, Graham and Maisie; Gill and Dave; Ron and Barbara and; Dave and Jackie. We have paid for an extra pitch to put up two Quests for us to gather in. So mid-afternoon we did and stayed until around 2300. For food we all brought something and had a buffet. Dave and Jackie did a short quiz.

Saturday 8th December (Day 2)

Even before we arrived we were informed it was very wet and some pitches were flooded but not the ones we were using. During the night it rained ‘cats and dogs’ so there were small rivers running across the driveways. After walking to the showers we had breakfast and then over to Dobies for a look around. not only Dobies but Waitrose, Mountain Warehouse, a café and much more. I managed to get a new pair of walking boots. Next was a bus to St Ives. A short walk around before settling in Floods Tavern for lunch. While there the camp site rang to inform us that the quest were upside down and other things blown around. So a hurried finish of the meal and a bus back arriving around 1600. With the Quests upside down and the light going the cool ‘well it has happened we will just sort it’ changed to more of a panic (well for one individual).  Most lights were ripped off but eventually things were sorted. It is believed that at least one is damaged but how much we do not know. This meant using the Motorhomes for this evening meet up and Auntie Resa sorted it. This meant Chris, Graham and Maisie entertained us which was fine. We had Mexican Train Game and Barricade with a cheese and biscuit interlude. The Barricade game we were not overly enthused about as it is too long. Bed called around 2345.

Sunday  9th December (Day 3)

Sunday was a wet start and dull. We, as a group milled about between, until just after 1400 when we all went to The Three Jolly Butchers in Wyton village. We had booked a meal for all of us for 1500. It was not until almost 1545 that our table became free. What followed was a really good meal. All the others had the Christmas menu whereas Chris and I had roast beef. Then, as we couldn't sit out at the site and only our motorhome really could cater for any volume of people, we adjourned to the bar side of the pub and continued drinking and chatting. That said Chris (Maise's mum) and I walked back to the site to get Maisie before joining all in the bar. It was quite late, and dark, when we finally walked back to the site and had a chilled out evening.

Monday  10th December (Day 4)

A slow start but still by just after 1000 we, and the others drove across the road to Dobies for tea / coffee and a some breakfast. It was then, for us a short drive home.
