Trip 128 - Chelmer Valley High - Christmas Party

Friday 1st December (Day 1)

The first really cold day of the year, and also this weekend, so we are of the MCC Christmas Bash at Chelmer Valley High. We cannot get into the school until 1800 but have arranged to have a lunch with Chris and Carolyn. So by 1245 we were pulling up at their house. A pleasant chat and lunch followed by an extra chat until about 1730 when we said our good byes. 1810 saw us parked up but no interior lights working. Fortunaely it was soon sorted as a fuse had blown. 1930 saw all of us gather in the hall. The evening followed the usual pattern of chatting and drink, paying for the weekend, bingo and back to chatting and drink. Before we knew it the time was 2300 and back to motorhomes for sleep

Saturday 2nd December (Day 2)

We awoke and got up at TEN! A quick breakfast and shower and then by just after 1115 we were delivered into Chelmsford by the local bus company. Straight to the cathedral as there was a Christmas market and the Rock Choir singing. After about 45 minutes we made our way to M&S to buy me a jumper which I apparently needed. Then to the Quadrant café to meet Carole and Tracy for lunch. Two hours later we said our goodbyes and Chris and I drifted around the city centre before walking back to the motorhome, arriving just before 1700. 1830 saw us all gather for the evenings entertainment. Well the ‘finger food’ was, as Rich would day, ‘beige. The catering company they used did the AGM food a few weeks back and was, by all accounts, good and lots of it. Ths was average and in short supply. Next the two entertainers, Tricks of the trade'. Both were guitarists and played for the first set of mainly Everley Brothers music. The second set got better but part way through and well before 2200 they informed us that the older of the two could not continue due to being ill (man flu). So the fall back was a playlist from our group. All in all the evening was not as good as it should have been. The new committee took it badly as if it was their fault, which clearly is not the case.

Sunday 3rd December (Day 3)

After the late rising yesterday we set the alarm for today - 0830. We decided not to shower but to just pack and go as the Christmas Market was in March today. So this meant by 0930 we were off. (We gave our apologies for not going to the ‘CHairman’s Waffle when we arrived on Friday.) This meant that by 1115 we were home and 1145 unpacked and ready to go to March.
