Trip 103 - Bradwell-on-Sea

Friday 5th November (Day 1)

So off to Bradwell-on-Sea today. We had to wait for a package from Dunelms and also the BT man to install broadband - who didn’t arrive! So by 1.30pm we left our new Wimblington home, albeit it was a bit tight getting off the drive. (I am sure it will get easier.) Then it was a pleasant 85+ mile drive to Resa and Eric’s Southminster home with a stop for bread and diesel on the way. We arrived at just after 4.00pm and had a cup of tea with Resa, Dave and Gill who were already there. No Eric as he had taken Sean to the Whittington Hospital as he had dislocated his knee a few days earlier playing 5-a-side football. We left Resa’s about 5.20pm after Dave went and bought fish and chips for him and Gill to eat on arrival at Bradwell-on-Sea. (Resa and Eric were going to arrive on Saturday.) It was a twisty narrow lane drive to join the Motor Caravanners at Bradwell village hall just a 15 minute drive away. We were soon parked and on went our pre cooked curry for dinner. It was then over to the hall for a good chinwag and drink, preceded by a game of bingo. It was after 11.00pm when we strolled back to the motorhome and soon fell into bed.

Saturday 6th November (Day 2)

After a good sleep it was a big bacon butty start to the day. Then we just people watched from the warmth of Billina until about 11.25am when we got ourselves ready for a walk. A circular walk of about seven miles. As we were leaving Resa and Eric arrived. The walk turned out to be mainly among un-metalled roads. We walked through Bradwell Marsh Wind Farm and walking that close to the turbines the immense size of there structures really struck you as did the noise of the huge blades made by them whirling around. We then picked up St Peter’s Way which led us across a few fields and into Tillingham. Here we rested with a pint in The Fox and Hounds. A nice rest and chat to two locals who used to live in Havering for a long time. (He even went to the technical college down the road from where we use to live and The Spencers pub - our old local!) Off for the second half of the walk only to find it was a shorter half and so we were back by around 3.00pm. We then joined Resa and Eric for a chat before returning to Billina for a ‘nanna nap. Resa, Eric, Dave and Gill were off to the Kings Head for an evening meal while we had casserole and dumplings in the motorhome. Just after 7.00pm we went over to the village hall for the evenings entertainment. It started with a game of musical bingo, this was followed by each table playing ‘Play Your Cards Right’ until a winning table was found. What followed was a game of ‘musical chairs’ with a difference. You walked around and when the music stopped you stood in a group by the nearest of the four chairs then each ‘team’ were given a potato and you had to roll it to a post in the middle of the four chairs. The team with a potato furthest away from the post were out and you continued until a winner was found. A simple game but very entertaining. It finished with the inevitable raffle (we won a prize!!) More chatting and then gradually, around 11.00pm, people sauntered off to bed.

Sunday 7th November (Day 3)

Another good sleep. My first job before anything was loo duties as ‘the light of doom’ came on last night. Then breakfast and then we started to prepare to leave - emptying waste, putting silver covers away etc. Over to the hall for the ‘Chairman’s Banter / Waffle’. By just before midday we left for the two hour drive home. Both of us just wanted to get home to our new place and had a good easy drive home.
