Trip 49 - Great Yarmouth

Wednesday 13th December (Day 1)

After the snow and sub zero temperatures it was nice to note that above zero temperatures were forecast. We arrived at the motorhome around midday and filled with water before setting off for Beccles - our overnight stop. On the way we stopped for lunch (pre-made) eventually arriving at the Three Horseshoes just after 3.00pm. The plan was a walk around the area but the rain put paid to that. We are at a pub so it seemed rude not to shelter from the rain and have a beer. We were made very welcome and had a good pint by a lovely log burner fire. The pub is Grade 2 listed and has some original beams from the early 14thc. After the drink we returned to the motorhome and sat with the, now very heavy, rain beating on the roof. A bit of tv watching before we returned to the pub for a meal. A bit more expensive than usual but exceptionally good. By 9.00pm we were back in the MH watching a recorded programme before having an early night as the sooner we get to the Motorhome dealers tomorrow the more chance the shower, door and hob problems are likely to be fixed. (The reason for the trip.)

Thursday 14th December (Day 2)

A cold night but we were OK. We made the short 30 minute trip to Great Yarmouth and Simpsons the motorhome dealer. We left the MH and got a lift into town for some Christmas shopping. Great Yarmouth is a pale echo of its former self with many empty shop units but plenty of cafes, betting offices, Christmas chip shops and charity shops. We had a great breakfast at a 'greasy spoon' before venturing around the shops. Then after some shopping we had a coffee. This was the pattern for the day; shop then tea break. Eventually we got the call that the MH was ready for collection and our lift would arrive in half an hour. The shower appeared to be just a furred up shower head - something we could sort. The lock and other jobs needed parts that had to be sent from France so we left with nothing actually fixed. We had a good couple of days and did get some shopping down so not a complete waste. Another trip next year will be required. A good run back to Braintree and then onward to Hornchurch followed.
