Trip 38 - Suffolk

Saturday 27th August (Day 1)

The slowest start to a trip ever. 4.00pm saw us leaving the house to collect the van and by just before 5.30pm we were parked up on the front drive of Chris and Carolyn's house. We then changed for a 60th birthday bash (Christopher's). There then followed a great night. Dry balmy weather with great food and good music, although most people were outside chatting and socialising rather than inside dancing. By midnight it was time to tidy and leave. We then sat for over an hour chatting with Chris and Carolyn before retiring to the motorhome for sleep time.

Sunday 28th August (Day 2)

A prompt start with a good cooked breakfast by Chris before we said our goodbyes and moved off to Suffolk. A fairly good run with just a small interruption for a collision that occurred near to Ipswich. Only about 20 minutes added to the journey so by just after noon we pulled up at the Camping & Caravan Club Certified Site near Cheddiston. It was a new site with a pretty location but all was not yet finished/ Only one shower and toilet and even the shower walls were not finished. It mattered not with the MH though. A lot of catching up to do as we met my cousin Alan and his wife Lyn there. There was two other of his friends there as well. We haven't seen each other since August 2013. Much chatting until just after lunch when we set off for a cycle ride to a local coarse fishing lake where the other two, who we had not met until today, were fishing. A circuitous route back arriving around 4.00pm, after ten miles of pedalling. A bit more chatting and then we strolled down to a local Trout lake where Alan and his friend, who had a nickname of 'Dubby' were attempting to fly fish for a trout. They failed and the fish took the micky by jumping out of the water near to where they were. We then scurried back as the rain came and got quite heavy. A few drinks and a chat and then just before 8.00pm we piled into some transport and drove to the local pub, The Rumburgh Buck for a meal. We were also joined by the site owner, another Alan, and his Wife. We had a pleasant meal and made our way back to the site where we stayed talking until gone midnight.

Monday 29th August (Day 3)

A nice sunny start to the day. Alan and Dubby decided to go sea fishing on the site owners boat, while those left went for a more mundane, but enjoyable, day. So they went fishing from Lowestoft and we went to Southwold. A stroll along the sands to the estuary followed by a walk back along a path into town with a stop there at a pub for a refreshing beer (Adnams what else). Then a drive around to Dunwich for anther stroll, an ice cream before driving back to the site. Next we played Kubb until the 'hunters' returned from fishing - empty handed. A late BBQ followed before we went over to the owners house where we were Royally entertained by his wife who is a professional singer. An evening of (good) karoake followed which finished around midnight. Then I stood outside for a short while just looking at the stars which, with the dark surrounding area was really impressive. Eventually, we had to retire to our beds but this was very reluctantly.

Tuesday 30th August (Day 4)

Isnt it always the way? The day you are leaving is the best weather-wise! Clear blue sky, sunshine and no breeze. Anyway after breakfast we packed and then reminisced on how we used to be packing up as we watched the others packing up their tents, cookers etc and then jigsaw it into their cars. It brought back memories. By around 11.00am we said our goodbyes with a promise not to leave it three years again and we were off. The journey home was both uneventful and easy and after a quick snack in the MH we were home by 2.00pm - and planning for the next trip which starts in just seven days.
